Calisthenics is a uniquely Australian sport involving a combination of activities including marching, club swinging, rod twisting, aerobic exercise routines, singing, dancing and ballet set to music.
The components of the sport aim at achieving those physical attributes, the sport also effects the emotional and social development of girls and boys through friendship and teamwork.
It is the variety of disciplines within Calisthenics that make the sport so appealing; dance, ballet, singing, gymnastics, acting and above all the joy associated with performing on a theatre stage. We believe there is no other sport able to offer such a wide range of opportunities to our participants!
Participants learn 4-7 items concurrently through the year, depending on their age, and perform these at competitions as well as at the Highett Youth Club Calisthenics Annual Display in November.
In learning these routines participants develop a high level of fitness and muscle tone, as well as coordination, confidence, grace and poise - fine attributes that can be carried through all aspects of their lives.
Participants are exhilarated by the opportunity to perform in costume and make-up, and through the stage experience, gain confidence in performing in front of an audience.
We offer recreational classes the under 7s, and competitive classes for Tinies, Sub-Juniors, Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors (ages 3-16+ years).
