Do your kids love dance and want to perform?

CaliDance is a jam packed class designed for grade 2 and above children that focuses on creating confident, skilled dancers who use their teamwork to put amazing performances on stage at our two annual concerts each year.

Classes begin with a high energy warm up and stretch to prepare the body to dance and improve our flexibility, we follow this with some technique development including jazz or ballet technique, basic dance steps, gymnastics skills, calisthenics tricks and musicality. We then learn and develop our choreography for our items, the team usually perform 3-5 unique items at each concert ranging from various dance styles and classic calisthenics items. We are all about inclusivity at HYC and make an effort to make sure every dancer has moments to shine, especially as a recreational class, there is no pressure to be perfect but rather to be confident and perform with passion.

This class is 1.5 hours long and runs every Wednesday from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

What should dancers bring to class/Dress code?
Dancers are only required to come to class in dance-able clothing, comfy clothes that are flexible and they can move around in. We will keep any apparatus, costumes and props at the club for safe keeping, so you will only need to bring a water bottle with your dancer to class. We dance barefoot in calidance so no dance shoes are needed.

✅ Yes: Leotards, Leggings, T-Shirts, Tracksuits. Tight and baggy are both perfectly fine!

🚫 No: Dresses, Skirts, Socks/Stockings/Tights that cover the feet.

What should we expect for the concerts?
We hold two compulsory performances each year, our mid-year and end of year concert.

The mid-year concert will take place at the end of term 2, around May or June, at a hired theatre venue, all our HYC dancers including our competitive teams will perform up 2-3 routines each and any solos or duos that our dancers have competed in the solo season early in the year. This is a short concert that provides a sneak peak into the progress of each team halfway through the year, it is a super fun opportunity to perform in costume with the stage environment that our dancers and their families and friends in the audience love and enjoy.

The end-of-year concert is the highlight of the every year! This concert takes place at the end of the year and competitive calisthenics season, around October or November, at a hired theatre venue. All HYC dancers will perform all of their routines from the year, ranging from 3-7 routines each! There is an intermission mid way and presentation of rewards at the end of this show, usually this concert will run for about 2 hours. Dancers will perform their polished routines in costume on stage with fancy lighting and background video. Dancers and their families and friends have so much fun at this event and will remember it for years to come.

How involved will I have to be as a parent?
At HYC we try to make everything as easy as possible for our dancers parents, so nothing like sewing is required! Costumes are all organised by coaches and staff (Including many that are made beautifully by our very talented operations manager Joyce!) All we ask is that you support your dancer to be the best and most confident they can be and get their hair into a nice clean ponytail for our two concerts every year, that's all!
