Which class is right for my child?
We currently have two Cali Dance classes running, Mini's and Primary. Both classes are completely beginner friendly, open to all and loads of fun! The Mini's class is for dancers in Prep - Grade 1 and the Primary class is for dancers in Grade 2 -6.

CaliDance Mini's (Prep - Grade 1)
Our Mini's class is designed to be the most beneficial for our young dancers, we focus on building confidence and coordination while building on the basics of calisthenics and dance.
We start each class with a warm up and stretch to get our bodies ready for choreography and improve our flexibility and skills. We then work on some fundamental dance moves and techniques and then get to work on the routines we will perform at our two annual concerts. Items will be varied in each concert, the Mini's team will usually perform 2-3 unique items at each concert ranging from various dance styles and classic calisthenics items. We include fun dance related games in classes to reinforce our basics and build new skills such as musicality, performance, terminology and more.
This class is 1 hour long and runs each Wednesday from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
Do your kids love dance and want to perform?
What should dancers bring to class/Dress code?
Dancers are only required to come to class in dance-able clothing, comfy clothes that are flexible and they can move around in. We will keep any apparatus, costumes and props at the club for safe keeping, so you will only need to bring a water bottle with your dancer to class. We dance barefoot in calidance so no dance shoes are needed.
✅ Yes: Leotards, Leggings, T-Shirts, Tracksuits. Tight and baggy are both perfectly fine!
🚫 No: Dresses, Skirts (princess and fairy skirts are ok in the younger Mini's class but tend to get in the way for the older dancers in primary), Socks/Stockings/Tights that cover the feet.
What should we expect for the concerts?
We hold two compulsory performances each year, our mid-year and end of year concert.
The mid-year concert will take place at the end of term 2, around May or June, at a hired theatre venue, all our HYC dancers including our 3 competitive teams will perform up 2-3 routines each and any solos or duos that our dancers have competed in the solo season early in the year. This is a short concert that provides a sneak peak into the progress of each team halfway through the year, it is a super fun opportunity to perform in costume with the stage environment that our dancers and their families and friends in the audience love and enjoy.
The end-of-year concert is the highlight of the every year! This concert takes place at the end of the year and competitive calisthenics season, around October or November, at a hired theatre venue. All HYC dancers will perform all of their routines from the year, ranging from 3-7 routines each! There is an intermission mid way and presentation of rewards at the end of this show, usually this concert will run for about 2 hours. Dancers will perform their polished routines in costume on stage with fancy lighting and background video. Dancers and their families and friends have so much fun at this event and will remember it for years to come.
How involved will I have to be as a parent?
At HYC we try to make everything as easy as possible for our dancers parents, so nothing like sewing is required! Costumes are all organised by coaches and staff (Including many that are made beautifully by our very talented operations manager Joyce!) All we ask is that you support your dancer to be the best and most confident they can be and get their hair into a nice clean ponytail for our two concerts every year, that's all!
