Recreational Gymnastics

Suitable for children in Foundation - Year 7.

Our Rec classes are designed to not only teach gymnastics but also to be fun and engaging, encouraging children to stay active and involved in sport. Gymnastics builds a solid foundation for every child to excel in other sports, activities, and areas of life by developing:

  • Coordination

  • Balance

  • Strength

  • Flexibility

  • Confidence

Classes are beginner-friendly with lesson plans structured around the personal growth and skill progression of each gymnast, offering steady advancement through gymnastics fundamentals and milestones. We have fortnightly focuses on specific skills aimed to help students learn in a comfortable and safe way.

The Rec program teaches 6 apparatuses in total: Beam, P-Bars, Uneven Bars, Rings, Vault, and Floor. Coaches start every class with a warm-up and then run circuits of 2-3 apparatuses, which are rotated each week.

HYC coaches are qualified with certifications from Gymnastics Australia, as well as first aid and CPR training.

Our gymnasium is fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that is well maintained to ensure safety and features an Olympic-sized floor. We also have AC units installed throughout the building, allowing students to comfortably participate in class all year round. For parents and family, we have an upstairs mezzanine viewing area to watch classes and a foyer seating area.

Rec (Recreational Gymnastics) classes are divided by school grades, so students will be with their peer groups.

Example: "Rec Foundation – Grade 1" is for children in prep to grade 1.

We offer All Abilities classes on Saturdays for students with additional needs, including neurodiverse needs and physical disabilities.

Enrol your child in a Recreational Gymnastics class to help guide them towards a healthy and happy life.
